The Idaho State Legislature has made certain changes in the election laws, effective January 1, 2011. The following is an excerpt from Title 31, Counties and County Law; Chapter 43, Recreation Districts:
31-4306. ELECTION OF DIRECTORS. (EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2011) (1. An election of directors shall be held in each district on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday of November of each odd-numbered year.
Any questions concerning these election changes should be directed to the Election Clerk at the Elmore County Courthouse.
Board Meeting Time Change:
Beginning April 26, 2012, The Western Elmore County Recreation District has changed the time of their regular Board meetings to 7:00 p.m., the second Thursday of every month.
Office Hours:
The WECRD office, located at 245 East 6th South (next to the potato processing plant) is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m. Depending on staffing availability, there will be other days and times the office will be open, but not on a regular basis. It is suggested that people should call the office at 580-2377 or stop by to check if the office is open on non-scheduled days.
The current Board will continue on with its work as incumbents Marsha Sellers and Jana Borgholthaus won the election over challengers Judy Mayne and Art Nelson in the November 2nd WECRD election.
Marsha Sellers defeated Judy Mayne 1,381 to 1,225 votes in the District 1 race, and Jana Borgholthaus won over Art Nelson 1,385 to 1,217 votes in the District 2 seat in heavy balloting.
The challengers were advocating a clear change in WECRD priorities, preferring to spend District dollars on existing programs in the community and possible a large building that could be used for community events and some recreation. Sellers and Borgholthaus supported a “stay the course” route towards the end goal of building a recreation/community center that would house a variety of recreation components, youth activity room, and an event room for the community to use. Their desire is that, once the Recreation Center is built, it will be run by the Treasure Valley YMCA.
The Directors will continue on with their goal of working with the YMCA and obtaining funding to build the recreation center.
